Saanen

Named after the river, the Saane, situated at 1014 m above sea level, surrounded by mountains and pastures, Saanen exudes a natural charm.

The village is quiet yet lively, and the local businesses are lively and active. Brocante and markets enliven the village in summer.

The Mauritius Kirche, first mentioned in a document in 1228, impresses with its landmark, the striking tower with hexagonal roof and wooden belfry as well as the murals, created around 1470.
And it is where the Gstaad Menuhin Festival originated in 1957. On 4 and 6 August Yehudi Menuhin, the famous violinist, gave his first two concerts in the church in Saanen.

For several weeks during the summer, Saanen was the centre where Krishnamurti would come and give his talks. During his travels in Europe, he fell in love with the quiet majesty of the Saanenland mountains and the beauty of the valleys with their streams and meadows. From 1961 to 1985, he returned to Saanen every summer, where he gave public lectures to thousands of people from all over the world.

Saanenland

It is said that when God created the world and needed to rest from time to time, he looked around tiredly and contentedly, gently supporting himself with his hand.
This is how he created the Saanenland: the imprint of the forearm is the Pays d’Enhaut, the thumb Schönried/Saanenmöser, the index finger the Turbachtal, the middle finger Lauenen, the ring finger Gsteig and the little finger the Chalberhöni.

Since then, the Saanenland has been located in the south-west of Switzerland on the border with the French-speaking part of the country.
The region is easily accessible by train or car from the Lake Thun region, the Lake Geneva area and the Gruyère region. Montreux on beautiful Lake Geneva can be reached by car or train in just over 1 hour.

Discover the Saanenland on foot, by bike, mountain bike, on skis, sledges or cross-country ski trails. Or simply as you like. Feast on terraces, in parlors and restaurants.
Enjoy the unique mountain world. The paths lead you through varied landscapes, through moorland, deep gorges, alpine valleys, high mountain peaks, past beautifully situated alpine inns.

Breathe in the fresh air and let your mind wander. A pleasure in summer and winter.

Last but not least…

Here is where you come to meet with family and friends.

Enjoy the Saanenland, enjoy culture, sport and pure relaxation.
